Many people would argue what the number 1 reason is as to why people fail in MLM, and no doubt if you are one of the 97% that are struggling to make a success of your own MLM business, you are probably trying to answer this question right now in your mind: Is it Fear? Worry? Lack of confidence? Peer-pressure? Your Spouse? Family, Dog or Cat?
Joking aside, the number one reason why people fail in MLM is because of this: EXCUSES! Think about it, if people never had reasons to give an excuse, just where could their lives be right now? Think of all the things they would have accomplished simply by saying yes and then taking the necessary action to see things through. So why do we all do it? Why do we make excuses?
Well, for many reasons, some I have already mentioned above, including fear, self-doubt, lack of confidence, worrying whether it will work for them, worrying about what other people would think of them, etc. We all are guilty of doing it…
But, what if it was a matter of life or death? Think about this scenario: What if you had a child who was dying from a rare disease. What if the best doctor in the world said to you that there is a cure available, but that it would cost you £10,000 to get it but you and your spouse were flat-broke? And what if you had to get this cure within 48 hours otherwise your child would die? We would do it in a heartbeat right? We would do whatever it took for us to get that money right?
While thinking about that scenario, did you think of an excuse NOT to get that £10,000? I bet you didn’t… Instead, our brain started thinking about all the ways of obtaining the money because it was a matter of life or death.
So why do we not apply the same principle to our business and to the things that matter most to us? Why do we not treat things with high urgency? Think about it, wouldn’t we have more self-confidence and integrity simply by learning how to say yes and even how to say no? After all, we’re not only being honest with ourselves, we’re also being honest to those around us. By learning to be honest with ourselves and those around us, we learn and develop faster.
We need to start asking ourselves, “What is the real reason that attracted me to this business?” Is it because you wanted to make more money? Is it because you wanted to make a positive shift in your life so that you could start enjoying life a bit more? It is vital that we learn to find our WHY, since this is what would encourage us to continue taking massive steps in our business and to make positive changes in our lives, via the business we are in.
By learning not to make excuses for ourselves, we learn not to take the excuses of others. Thus, when prospects say to you, “I don’t have the money” or “I don’t have the time” ask them, “Why not? Why don’t you have the time?” or “Why don’t you have the money?” You will quickly realise that more often than not, people use excuses to mask the real reason behind what they are actually saying. For instance, those who say they do not have the time and/or the money, usually mean they cannot be bothered to find the time and/the money to make this business work for them. If you were to give them the above scenario of a dying child, I am certain they would find the time and they would find the money!
The bottom line is, by being honest with ourselves, and thereby stopping ourselves from making excuses, we also empower others to learn to be honest with themselves.
