Why AdSense Makes Sense for Your Online Business

You may or may not be aware that Google actually earns most of its revenue through advertising, most of which comes from website owners advertising on their search result pages. People do this  through a program called Google AdWords and Google charges them a specific amount each time someone clicks on their respective ad.

You too can earn a share of this money Google earns from AdWords. You do this by displaying these same adverts on your own site, and they then pay you a percentage of what they (Google) earn. This program is called Google AdSense. Google AdSense

Every website owner should consider the AdSense program.  Most people think that to make money on the internet you have to sell something. But the great thing about this program is that even if you are not selling any products or services on your site, AdSense provides a great way for you to make some extra money on the internet.

In the past, website owners tried to make money from their sites by putting up banner ads. The problem with these is that they tend to be ugly and irrelevant and most visitors to your site will just ignore them. Another issue is that to get paid by the company (the banner belongs to you) the visitor needs to purchase or sign up for the actual product or service.

With AdSense the adverts Google displays on your site are contextual, meaning that the adverts will be relevant to your website’s content. And secondly, and most important on the money front atleast, visitors are not required to buy/signup for anything if they don’t want to, in order for you to get paid they simply just have to click on one of these ads. The amount you are paid per click will vary depending on the ad, but just consider that some people are already making a full-time income from this system!

Another great thing about AdSense is that the adverts listed are usually simple text which blends in with your website’s material. Visitors tend to think that the ads are part of your website and are therefore more likely to click on them as the information is relevant. Banner ads, on the other hand  often have little relevance to your site therefore people tend to ignore them no matter how bright and flashy they are and move across the page vying for attention.

Knowing now that you can make good money with AdSense, naturally you want to position yourself to fully capitalize on it. Here are some tips to making good money from Adsense:

1. Create a website with your own domain.  Avoid using a free web host if you can because you may not get much flexibility in how your site will look and where you can place your adverts. A free web host will also give you a longer website address, which is not very attractive or easy to remember.

2. If the primary goal of your site is to make money with AdSense, be sure to choose a topic that you know a lot or can easily find a lot about. This will allow you to put up huge amounts of content which can be constantly updated and you can index or categorise. Search Engines favour this over single static page websites.

3. Ensure your content is focused on a specific topic and not a combination of different topics or interests that do not relate to each other. You want your site to have an obvious and user friendly theme which all links in nicely. Also make sure that your content is unique and not simply copied and pasted from other websites. Search Engines look for this when ranking your site.

4. Get traffic. This is the most important step for any successful online business. Once you have your site up and running it is worthwhile learning some additional techniques to accelerate your site getting a high ranking on the major search engines.
